Hi I am currently on the pill but missed one towards the end. A week before my 'pill free week' I had really strong period pains, and I don't usually get any. I thought great this is going to be a heavy period! Instead I only got brown stuff which only lasted 2 days. I took 2 pregnancy tests but both said negative. I've been feeling really tired, more than usual! and I still have mild period pains now, 3 days after my period would have ended if I had one. I don't want to go to the doctors as ill feel silly knowing I've taken 2 tests. Do you think I should? And do you think the tests could be wrong for some reason? If not I'm just confused that I didn't have any blood and my sister told me brown stuff usually was old blood. I'm so confused!

Missing one pill is enough to throw your system out of whack a bit. Short of waiting for the next month's period, getting a blood test at the doctor is the surest way to confirm or deny. Nothing silly about being sure, just peace of mind!

Birth control pills can cause strange periods sometimes. How long have you been taking birth control pills. If you just started recently then your irregular period is most likely from your body getting use to the birth control. When I was on birth control I would have periods sometimes that were just brown blood/discharge and then I would have completely normal periods. Your body does crazy things. If you are trying to not get pregnant and having sex please use another from of birth control, such as a condom, with your birth control pills. I got pregnant while on birth control pills, so they aren't 100% effective.

I've been on it since I was 14 and I'm now 22! I've spoken to a friend and I've decided to go to the doctors and have a blood test, apparently that can detect smaller traces of the pregnancy hormone. I'm probably not as 2 tests said negative but I'm experiencing lots of changes in my body. I'm eating twice as much as my usual portions aren't filling me up any more, I'm getting headaches every day and I don't usually get any and I'm so tired I actually fell asleep at work yesterday! Are these common signs of pregnancy or could they be something else and as I'm concerned I might be pregnant I am linking them?

Unfortunately pregnancy signs can be signs of a lot of different things, such as the beginning of your period. You can never be sure of pregnancy by looking at only the symptoms. The best thing to do is go to the doctor and get a blood test. At least then you will know for sure and if you aren't pregnant you can begin looking into other reasons for these symptoms.

Thank you. I took a 3rd test and that said negative too so I'm just going with that. Thank you for your help.
