I'm having trouble with my IE address bar. If I type in an address and hit enter or click go, nothing happens for about 2 or 3 minutes, then it goes to the page I typed in. Favorites and history from the address bar drop down work fine. I've run Sybot, Adaware, BHODemon, and Mcafee, all to no avail...

Hi,
What version of IE do you have?
Do you have IE6/SP1?

If you are running IE V. 5.0 or 5.5, there is a known issue with XP/SP2 with those IE versions.

I'll bet that before you downloaded the SP2, your address bar worked just fine!

Microsoft does have "bugs" in SP2.
Please post back with your IE version.

Totally agree with Fred on SP2 'bugs'.

And to make you even more uncomfortable,Microsoft will release 13 'fixes' on 8th February,2005,concerning good old Windows!

I'm using IE 6. The problem did start after installing SP2. Any ideas how to fix it? Will the new updates help out.

Hi,
Try going to Windows Update, let it scan your computer, and see if there are any recent updates to SP2.
I am sorry, but I don't know a specific "fix" to the slow IE address bar issue.

Howdy:

Fred gave a very good link IF you were running Win2000 with Service Pack 2 and using IE Version 5 or 5.5.. Unfortunately, you are using WinXP which comes with IE6 therefore the link really has no bearing on your problem!

Have you tried running a repair on IE6 through XP to see if that clears up your slow browser load?

EDIT: Also, try cleaning out your temp and temp internet folders..

I have a customer with the same problem. I think that some patches to XP were installed, but not SP2. I put in SP2 to try and fix on one computer.
They have 4 computers. Two have the problem, two do not.

- If you type the same address, but fill in the http:// in front of www, then it works just fine. Therein seems to be the problem. If I knew how the web works in re the conversion from www, then I could figure out a fix.
After 18yrs of fixing computer problems, I'm a damn good guesser... :)

I also tried "Hijaak This", Spybot, McAfee, Registry Restore, etc.

Oh, ps: I'll try this new trick I just learned later this week:
Creat a new "user". Test to see if the problem went away.
Then, manually transfer MyDocs, desktop, favorites, email. Test the email totally. Then, delete the old "user".

I've used this twice in the last week to fix problems I couldn't fix otherwise.

Have you updated the SP2 machine with all the latest updates from micro$oft? As this problem was around in February, its possible they've fixed it!

I'll presume you've tried the repair process described earlier, the only other thing to suggest is running SFC /scannow to check your system files. Unlikely as it has happened on two machines together but worth doing once in a while anyway.

I am having the same problem as described by MattBowers. I have SP1 and IE 6.0. I tried applying latest patches. Any additional idea's?

Repair Internet Explorer 6 by using the System File Checker in Windows XP
If you already have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, and you do not want to install Internet Explorer 7, you may be able to resolve problems with Internet Explorer 6 by running the System File Checker. Additionally, running the System File Checker may help resolve issues with Outlook Express.
