Boot Freezes when USB Mouse plugged in
For some reason ,after I rebooted my computer one day, it became stuck in the process of booting up. I later realized that it was the point in which it "reads" my keyboard and mouse. ( back story: I have had my current mouse and keyboard for a year now, it is a Microsoft Wireless Desktop package. It has never given me problems before.)

My fix action was to unplug it and plug in an old "wired" keyboard, restart, and then after windows was finished booting up, I then plug my wireless combo back in and PRESTO! I updated the drivers for the mouse and keyboard and I still get stuck on a reboot if my wireless combo is connected.

    Please help.

Sound like a conflict with another program running in the background... use msconfig to disable all the background apps and see if the issue goes away... you can then interactively enable each background app and find out which one is causing the conflict... onother posssibility is simply a hardware issue... a good trick is to flip the keybopard over and drop it (flat) a few times about 2 inches off the desk... this cleans out the key contacts which are simply thin layers of film with etched traces...

I don't think that it's a conflict with background apps, because the moment it gets stuck is well before Windows even loads. In fact, it gets stuck at the first thing that pops up (ASUS screen). When I disconnected the wireless combo it fixed the boot problem so I only assumed that it was this point (at the ASUS screen) that the keyboard and mouse loaded up.

As for the hardware problem, do you mean that a key is stuck? Now that I think about it, I've also experienced a slight issue with my mouse a couple of weeks back when my mouse would double or triple click when I only click once. I tried to find out if something was selected in the Mouse options under the Control Panel. There was nothing like this selected.

I'm starting to think that it is just the Mouse&Keyboard combo going bad, but I don't like to think that it just goes bad all of the sudden.

I actually had this same problem before, I brought my computer to a friends house, everything was fine. When I brought it back home and hooked it all up, it would keep freezing. I tried everything I could think of to do and was getting so mad. I tried to replace everything, I put in a new hard drive I had laying around, new RAM, new power supply just in case it was surging or something, took out my add on video card, sound card NIC card... and still the same thing. I don't know what made me finally decide to unplug my mouse, but after about 3 hours I did, and it booted up just fine. As soon as windows loaded, I plugged the mouse back in - in a different USB port, and its worked fine since. I even tried to turn it back off, put the mouse back into the original USB port, and it still worked fine. I have no clue what happened or why, but if I ever get stuck in a similar situation, I think the mouse will be the first thing I check :)

My Canon MP 390 USB Printer hangs XP boot on a Dell 8300. Boots fine with printer not hooked-up. Boots with other USB devices. All USB hubs show up in Device Manager. Clean re-load of XP, SP2 and current BIOS don't help. Maybe an IRQ conflict? Or What?
