Reid itching for his next defeat.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have announced that again they will attempt to legislatively force President Bush's hand on the Iraq war while not actually exercising their power of the purse and thus being responsible for the tragic chaos that would result from a withdrawal at this time. Leave it to the Dems to announce America's surrender on the eve of the 4th of July .

After 10 days of the surge at full deployment they have deemed the effort a failure . I could just imagine their angst when our troops were struggling in the hedgerows of Normandy ;or their raising of the white flag when the 101st Airborne Division was pinned down at Bastogne during WWII .

I got to say one thing for them ;they are relentless. Yesterday Reid licked his wounds after he was pummeled and embarrassed by the Comprehensive Immigration vote and proclaimed that the bill would come up for a vote again .

The problem is that when I read the MSM reports they all said Bush was handed a stunning defeat in the Senate. So much for unbiased reporting .

But I do have to ask President Bush if he really thinks it wise to pick fights with his base at this crucial time ? Perhaps the Democrats have something here . Perhaps they think they see their chance with the Republican base duking it out with the President that it's time to perform the coup-de -gras . I just hope that the base does not forget the phone numbers they have been dialing for the last 2 weeks. There are signs that some of the Republicans in the Senate like Richard Lugar are wavering .

Meanwhile the BBC is openly ;almost gleefully reporting and anticipating a dangerous retreat of British soldiers from Basara . BBC NEWS | UK | Three troops killed in Iraq named

World affairs correspondent Paul Wood said an official announcement about the "dangerous retreat" to the airport would not be made until after the event to reduce the risk of attacks from insurgents.

And the BBC understands that British soldiers are expected to move from Basra city altogether to the airport "in the next few weeks over a single weekend".
So now the insurgents know that this "dangerous retreat" will occur within the next 3 weeks . Expect incidents of attacks on British troops to increase.

Once again the defeatocrats show they don't get it. Tony Snow summed up the Democrats' method of 'legislating' yesterday:

it is pretty clear that, again, members of Congress here are engaged in an attempt -- apparently since they have been unsuccessful in passing key legislation -- to try to do what they can to make life difficult for the White House.
That about sums it up all right.

Howard Dean said the immigration bill defeat was "a reminder of why the American people voted Republicans out in 2006 and why they’ll vote against them in 2008." This despite the fact a CBS news survey this week showed only 13 percent of the American people supported the bill, a Republican president was pushing for it... and didn't something like 15 Democrats vote against it? No matter, reality is whatever you decide when it comes to the left.

Personally I think Bush is right - whether he's right or not on the issue - to remain defiant in the face of this Democrat coup attempt. Another six months of Democratic pissing contests is bound to bring their ratings to single digits just in time for the primaries.

    Slightly off topic .

Should get interesting . The subpoena dispute has the potential to reach Constitutional crisis territory . None of the branches of the gvt. Including SCOTUS wants to answer the constitutional question of executive privilege regarding Presidential advisers council so they have traditionally eventually agreed to an accommodation that usually means some kind of testimony behind closed doors without a swearing in provision. But neither side appears to be in a mood for compromise.

Yep, but I'm often accused of being at least "slightly off." :D
