    Acura Integra Common Problems
    I own 2 1992 Acura Integra's. My first is semi retired with 278,000 miles (purchased with 45000) with very few problems so I bought a seldom used one(showroom shape) 9 months ago with low miles (now 116,000). They both have similar annoying problems living in the Northeast. When the weather drops below roughly 45 degrees (Fahrenheit) the cars (automatics) can be shifted into park but the park light indicator and locking mechanism has a hard time engaging so sometimes I carry 2 keys and leave 1 in the ignition(can't remove the key easily). The colder the weather the tougher it is to engage. Above 45 degrees there is no problem so 8 months out of the year it's no problem. I don't think that just oiling the cable will solve the problem, and I don't know if it's just a adjustment problem. My second common annoying problem is starting with warm weather or humid conditions. Whenever there is a humid day or it's over roughly 80 degrees if it doesn't start and runs continuously(I don't touch the gas pedal) it will die out after about 2 seconds and I have to wait about 5 minutes to try again(then it runs okay). Sometimes I go outside and open the fuel cap without any help. On a really really humid day it won't start at all or it takes a long time between trying and retrying (waiting sometimes for roughly a half hour between tries). When the weather cools downs and is not humid it will start right away. I usually listen for the fuel pump to pump before starting on warm days and it seems okay. I going to buy a spark tester today and probably change the cap and rotor. On my older car I had to replace the coil and installed a new ignition module and that didn't help. I did read on line about a under dash fuel pump relay on 1991 honda's sticking. Any idea's about the humidity problem. I can live with 2 keys on cold days but it's summer in the NE and I'm ready to get another car to use for the summer.

    1. Check for faulty (or adjustment of) automatic transmission gear position switch:

    2. Replace distributor cap, rotor, clean and wipe down spark plug cables with silicone spray, replace main relay (likely main cause). Perform K-Test on ECM. Apply dielectric grease to terminals on both ends of spark plug cables. Wipe porcelain on spark plugs with dielectric grease. Ensure 4 wires going to igniter and 2 wires going to coil are clean and tight--apply thin coat of dielectric grease, before assembly. Clean main ECM ground on thermostat housing and apply dielectric grease. If problem persists, consider applying dielectric grease to ECM connectors.
