    Pain in left side
This is my first pregnancy so I will have lots of questions... here is my first or second or third... lol. I have had minimal pressure or pain on my right side but a lot on my left side. Is it normal to have it more on one side then the other? I know about ectopic pregnancies but I would think the pain would be lower. This pain is higher in my stomach almost under my left breast... sorta like when you have run for a long time and you start getting that pain in your side that is where it is at and about how it feels. I have also just had back pain on my left side. Is this normal? Is this due to my uterus stretching?

Could be. It is too high for the ectopic sign (typically lower than your belly button on the side.), but keep your eye on it.if you start to develop a pain in your shoulder, get to the doctor... It is probably just indegestion... I get it often and it starts early. If it isn't too severe wait and discuss it with your doc. Try taking some tums and see if it goes away. If it gets more persistent call your doc and see if they want to see you.

It sounds to me like it is just a normal side effect of pregnancy(sounds like something I experienced often with mine). Your muscles are always stretching to accomedate the growth and weight of baby, and when you get far enough along, your organs get a bit pushed up and smooshed as well. Not the most comfortable thing at times. Gas/indegestion becomes a bigger problem for many reasons.(being smooshed, hormone changes, etc) try things like maalox, mylanta, tums. These help to relieve gas and help with upset stomach, heart burn, etc. Definitely discuss it with your doctor. Whenever you are in doubt, don't hesitate to contact them. It's their job to protect mother and baby, and are more then happy to answer any questions you have. If the pain is severe or constant, contact your doctor or go directly to the ER. It could be as simple as needing a new sleeping position. You never know. Good luck hun

Thanks girls. I never though of indegestion, I suppose that is the right place for it (right under your rib cage). I really don't think it is an ectopic pregnancy, it is too high and doesn't sound like one at all when I read the symptoms. I will try tums and see if that helps. I suppose I can already be having indegestion at 4 weeks.

I had heart burn from the first month on till the end of the 9th month. There's a old wives tale saying that your child will have a lot of hair if you had bad indigestion. Well, it proved true for me both times. BUT I had known people with the exact opposite happen too. So its not 100% I guess :0)

I suppose I keep wondering about it because it is just an odd place and feeling, especially with me only being almost 5 weeks. It is just like having a stitch in my side after running a long time and being out of breath, and it only seems to happen when I am at work walking around a lot (I am a server). I am probably just paranoid. I might have just pulled a muscle or something like that. I should give it some time before freaking out. I also have endometriosis so maybe it is connected to that for some reason. Who knows. The body is too strange for me to ever figure out.

Please call your doctor. It may be nothing serious, but you are worried about it, and you need some piece of mind. Pregnancy is stressful enough already as it is, so just give you doc a call and ask them about it. They are more then happy to help. Don't feel awkward, you aren't the only pregnant lady calling about things that worry you.

I plan on calling my doctor. I tried calling today but forgot that she is out of her office on fridays so the office is closed. I will call Monday morning and ask my doctor or her nurse. Thanks for your advice. I will let you know what they say.

OK good to hear. If you just don't feel right, or if it gets worse you can call the labor and delivery section of the hospital and talk to one of the nurses there about it.

The pain has gone away... no telling what it was. I did talk to my doctor anyway though. She said it could have been anything from indegestion to a pulled muscle, which might be unrelated to the pregnancy. She said since the pain went away there isn't anything I should worry about. It is weird how the pain did all the sudden disappear.

It might have just been some round ligament pain hun. I had it a lot with the twins... lol. It kind of depends on where exactly it was on your left side. If it was more pelvic then that would be my best guess... I hated it during my pregnancy.
