What constitutes an unfit mother... father has threatened to accuse me of such if I do not withdraw an application for child support... child lives with me full time.

The definition varies from jurisidction to juridiction. But generally it means being a danger to the welfare of the child.

Don't let the father intimidate. Get an lawyer.

If you aren't one then he can't prove it. It is very difficult to prove a parent unfit. Usually the biggest are drug abuser/dealer, severe neglect of the children, child molester and abuser. The court will be able to see false charges being brought by someone just after they have been requested or ordered to pay child support. They aren't that stupid. Simply being poor, having a lower education than the other parent, working a lot or being a stay at home mom, parenting different than the other parent likes do not constitute reasons for being unfit. My ex tried them all - court still found me an "exceptional parent". So you probably have nothing to worry about, file for child support and tell him to go screw himself!

Sad to say that many ex and soon to be ex spouse's threaten in order to get their way or get out of paying child support. Don't be intimidated.

Read through some of these and you can see for yourself that proving you unfit is not easy to do - unless you do have something that your ex can get ahold of.

It is common almost happening every time, that the parent without custody will threaten to take the kids, by legal means, or by stealing them. After that expect him to threaten to harm you and do all sorts of other things also.

This is why you need an attorney,

If there is a reason for harm to the child, then they may have a case, but normally these types of threats are silly and have no bearing.
Of course you file for child support.

I know how you feel my ex has threatened everything short of making my a target for terrorist attacks I lost my job however and had to get state assistance for two months. The state wanted it's money back and requires you to set up a case with child supprt services. Now iget to deal with all the threats and my new job pays less than the old one and I can't afford a lawyer. You'll be in my prayers.
