All I remember of this film when I saw it years ago was : It was made in the 80's - early to mid 80's. It started with a boy with a magic ring that fired blue bolts. His castle is attacked by and evil wizard with a ring that fired red energy. The good wizard makes the boy escape through a vortex into a forest but somehow watches his dad/ good wizard fight off the evil bad guy with blue and red energy beams!
Then he teams up with some rogue and they go on an adventure - there were scenes where the rogue is going to be eaten by cyclops's unless he marries one, ghosts chasing them in a cave and a village where the hero is seduced by hot woman who turns out to be a giant insect and tries to kill him.
I remember it ends with hero learning the blue ring and fighting the evil guy and getting his kingdom back and the rogue guy walks away into sunset.
I think it even spawned a sequal!

But can't remember what it was called - CAN ANYONE HELP??

This isn't Krull - no guns, or large gang or teleporting base in this film. Was more like Dungeons and Dragons - there were many cyclop's in this and they were going to put the rogue hero in it to eat him. Also Rogue Hero was grieving his dead wife a lot.
