    Rental privacy
My wife and I are moving from a rental fairly soon. Im curious about landlord privacy? How much should we expect? The lease is straightforward and basic. People have showed up unnanounced sporatically, for various reasons. Doing work for her. We told her this was OK, just call ahead. No luck. We live in a private lot, there is a no trespassing sign. What are the boundaries?

What does your lease say? Normally reasonable notice is required for any work being done on the premises. For non emergency work 1 day's notice is deemed reasonable.

If you are vacating, the landlord is entitled to show the premises to perspective tenants. In such cases, a hour or so notice is reasonable. You do not have to let in people without reasonable notice.

If a rental agent or the landlord shows up without notice, tell them, you are sorry, but this is not a good time, had you called ahead you would have been prepared. Please come back in an hour. If it's a workman, you can ask them to return later that day or the next day.
