How to a keep a mother cat from cry for kittens?
My roommate's cat had a litter about 6-7 weeks ago. Of the 4 born, 2 were picked out o be given away after weaning. Well, yesterday she gave them away and all night the mother cat's been meowing like mad, is there a good way to "calm her down"?

DtotheP, you are not going to like what I have to say. Give this some thought please. How would you feel if your babies were taken from you? Yes, I know this happens with cats all the time. It doesn't change the fact that it is distressing for the Mama cat. Your roommate probably should have waited an additional week before giving them away. It might have helped.

In the future, to avoid this problem, please speak with your roommate about spaying her cat. We have so many cats that are waiting for homes in shelters. Most are euthanized before a good home can be found due to lack of space.

P.S. If more people kept their pets from breeding, we would have a lower rate of animals having to be euthanized for lack of space. Right now, over 10,000,000 animals in the U.S. are euthanized by shelters & rescues because there are not enough homes to go around.

To be honest, all of what was done was none my call, I certainly would've done it differently, I just wanted to check. And rest assured all the cats will be spayed soon enough.
