    Custody and moving
My divorce will be final next month and I have primary physical custody of my 8 month old son with joint legal custody. I currently live in California and I would like to move to North Carolina. The custody battle up to this point was messy enough and I know this will make it a lot worse. I cannot afford a lawyer, however, my ex can and he will be fighting for full custody. What should my next step be to try and get the right to move and what can I expect in a custody plan from the judge with moving across the country with such a young child?

    Hello Mom:

You can expect the court to deny you the right to move. Clearly, if the custody battle has been messy, you're dealing with a parent who wants to be in his child's life. You want to move across the country and that will make that impossible.

Unless you have life and death reasons for the move, I believe the court will decide for the father, and it should.
