Mounting metal boxes on studs, walls allowed?
I am using EMT conduit and metal 4 square boxes for outlets in a barn/shop area.
Can I surface mount these boxes on the walls around the shop area and barn area. The walls are a wood particle board like material.
I was told the boxes should not be contacting any wood surfaces? Doesnt't make sense to me since everything will be in metal. The area will not be sheet rocked.
    Thank you, Guy

I don't like mounting on Particle Board, Unless you feel secure and not exposed to moisture. Shouldn't Fall off walls in couple of years.
Since you are Surface Mounting, I would not use mudring and wall plates.
I would use the Metal Industrial Cover. All metal, no wall plate.
