    Service plans
Thank you to hvac1000 & to hvacservicetech_07 for your input for my other post. I feel a lot better. The unit is only 5 yrs old, and the receipt said defrost control board, there was a loose terminal at Y2. This is all new territory to us, we use to have oil heat. We were sort of stuck with the service company, and they charge about 30% more than other companies, but the other companies won't travel here due to gas prices. We found this new company and they are more reasonable, plus offer plans where they service twice a year and cover part & labor for anything that breaks, except the compressor, that would be an additional fee to get that protection. Are these plans worth it?

Like anything else it is like buying insurance. You may get a plan and never use it or you may use it all the time. They service 2X year/ What happens when the unit has a problem and it is not that time of year? Do they charge for the service call?

The problem is that you need to read exactly what and when it is covered. Service calls, labor, trip charge, and other service charges? These contracts can be written in many different ways. Sorry I do not have a direct answer for your question because of the variable contract wording that is available.

I am going to get a copy of the contract and read it over including the fine print, and ask all of the questions you posted about service calls and all fees. I think it's great you offer your help on the board.
