Had my stainless steel sink replaced with kohler cast iron sink. Plumber said he needed to replace the rubber gasket to the disposal because it kept leaking after he reinstalled it from the sink switch out. Still leaks when you turn it on. Not a lot but enough that I have to keep a bowl under the sink to prevent puddles sitting on cabinet bottom. Did he not install the new gasket right or do I need to tighten something. I would call the plumber back but obviously he's not reliable since he's already tried to fix the problem twice. The disposal is only 1-1/2 years old. Tks JP

Is the leak at the drain pipe coming out the side or is it higher up near the top? If it's the side discharge is it leaking at the drain connection to the disposal or between the slip nuts and trap? Tell is the truth, that guy wasn't a real plumber was he?

Hey, Thanks for the quick response. It appears to be leaking from the top area where the rubber gasket sits. It does not appear to be coming from the area with the chrome rings that sandwich together he never touch that. He just unscrewed the whole thing. As you can see my terminology in plumbing and disposals is slightly lacking, but I think I might know more then that plumber did. He was one of our local listing of recommended plumbers. Can't remember the internet sight but they even wanted me to fill out a survey on his services. Check out my latest dilema under "Rigged 3" Soil Pipe" maybe you can help with that to. Thanks a lot. Sounds like he didn't use enough plumbers putty under the disposal's drain shoe when he swapped it out.

Growler's on to something here. It could very well be a ruptured putty seal under the lip of the drain. I have to ask. The installer didn't install the rubber gasket UNDER the drain lip did he? Regards, Tom

Its either a putty problem or he just did not get the eared collar tight. The home owner said he didn't he didn't remove any of that stuff so I'm not too sure about the putty idea, maybe. You guys would not have gone home and left it this way.

Wasn't there when he installed the new rubber gasket. I think the first gasket was fine he just installed it crooked because I kept telling him it was hanging out slightly on one side and not like that on the other. He said that sometimes you just can't reuse them and he said he would get a new one and replace it. But it sounds like from everyone's comments that I need to un-install it and check everything. I guess I can pull a step by step for that from the internet as I am not a plumber and not sure I know how it all comes apart and goes back together. But at least I now know what to check. Thanks for everyone's help. JP
