    My lab is gagging/renching recently.
    Hope someone can answer this.
I have a 10 month old Lab who is active & a okay eater. The last 2 days, he has been gagging/renching like something's caught in his throat. It sounds like he is going to throw up but nothing is coming out. Once, he gagged so much that a clear liquid came up but that's it. He seems to be doing this when he gets excited (runs or plays) or when I grab him by his collar. I recently added/mixed a new adult food (same company that made the food he was on) into his exsisting food 2 days ago. Can this be the problem? If not what?

I would take him to the vet... it may be kennel cough. I think that can be virul or bacterial.. we have some people on here that should be able to answer you question.. if they get on... but I don't think I would wait to long he is prob. Very uncomfortable

I have a vet tech that lives in our neighborhood she said that the dog could still get kennel cough even if it had his shots... maybe you should give your vet a call. My dog had kennel cough but she had it when I adopted her and they already had her on meds. I was just instructed to finish up her meds... she has never had a problem since. Good luck

Is that correct, I didn't see you mention caughing,.
Things to consider,Megaesophagus The esophagus is the tube connecting the throat to the stomach. When food is perceived in the esophagus, neurologic reflex causing muscle contraction and relaxation lead to rapid transport of the food into the stomach, like an elevator going down. Other reflexes prevent breathing during this swallowing process to protect the lungs from aspiration. This happends a lot from a belly with food and excitement. And common in large breed puppies.

Thanks! I think I'll be calling the vet tomorrow. I read up more on kennel cough & other infections they get & from what I read... it does sound like he has "kennel cough". He was recently around other dogs at the off leash park & over the long week-end. He also went into the cold lake.
