Puppy vaccinated, when to walk her?
My Jack Russell cross Chihuaha puppy, had her final vaccination yesterday. The vet told me to wait another 2 weeks before taking her for walks. But I'm dying to walk her today, I've waited 5 weeks, she is 15 weeks old today, so almost 4 months and most puppies here in the uk have had all their vaccinations by 12 weeks, and are out walking by now, I want to get her socialising with some other dogs, and most of all she gets very hyper and NEEDS to be walked for the exercise!

I know some people don't vaccinate their puppys at all, and others take them for walks before they even get the first vaccination, but if she got sick I would feel terrible.

What do you think, any advice or what would you do personally? It's very easy to sit there and tell me to wait another 2 weeks, but she needs walking NOW for everyone's sake...

Im thinking of risking it, she's almost 4 months old, not an 8 week old puppy.. help...

It is true, there is a window where one sniff where a sick dog relieved itself in the last 6 months can cause an fatal infection. However the period between 6-12 weeks is very important in socializing a puppy. I start taking my puppies out places as soon as we get them at about 7 weeks. I do try to avoid places where there are other dogs, or even other dogs go. It is much easier for us, because our puppies have service dog tags allowing us to take them places other dogs are forbidden. Avoid public parks. Select areas with plenty of traffic to keep strays down. Try to find other people giving their dogs good care and allow the puppies to play together.

If you love your pup this much, what is a little more time for the little guy. You will have him for the rest of his life. Try to be mature and stop thinking of yourself.

I seriously was just about to spout off 4 common diseases and 2 nasty parasites that incredibly find puppies with hardly any effort at all. Then in seconds flat I have ( in my mind ) typed them out in order with symptoms, and suggested treatment with lightning speed before one word ruined all my ambition to finish. That word was "UK". I don't have the slightest idea what is hazardous and what isn't in the UK. But by golly I was going to tell you anyway. LMAO,, Having said that, I do know this, small breed dogs, are harder to fix than large breed dogs. Basically due to the weight of larger breeds and greater window of error along with zero to slim delicate factor. Lastly, just because the puppy has been vaccinated, doesn't mean hours later the antigens in her little cute puppy body have had time to create the proper immunity to the respective vaccine. Besides, maybe your vet has a little better idea what could happen and how very preventable it is with a short quarantine from invisible trouble. Heck since you can't take him out, I think you should go get a little rubber ducky that squeaks, an fill up the tub and teach him to swim and quack like a duck. Indoor exercise is available with a little imagination! Enjoy you new family member.
