    Hampton Bay Remote Ceiling Fan
    Hi!

We have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan in our bedroom that is run strictly by remote (no pull chains). It usually works fine and we haven't had too many problems, but occasionally we can get it to turn on, but not off. All of a sudden it (the remote? The receiver?) will stop working when the light is on and the fan is going full-blast. This is a problem since it's in our bedroom and we can't sleep with the light on. There is no ready explanation for it since it had just worked a few minutes before to turn it on. Very frustrating! My husband is taking it apart right now (he's a mechanical engineer) but cannot figure what the problem is. Please help!

When this has happened previously we've just left it for a while and then will try again and again to turn it off... and for no real reason one of the times it just works. That's what we're hoping for, but we wish that we had a more definitive answer of what's going on so that we can fix it for good! We've tried changing and adjusting the battery, but nothing makes a difference. It's a total fluke.

My husband wanted me to also say that when he sets our other remote for a different fan to the same frequency the fan still won't shut off. He thinks this indicates a problem with either the fan receiver or the particular frequency.

Thanks for your help and time!

You can try setting both the fan and remote to a different frequency. Sounds like the receiver is not picking up signals strong all the time. Does it have an antenna? Some do.

I installed a Hunter ceiling fan with a Hampton Bay remote. The remote controls the fan correctly. The light works when pulling the chain but does not work from the remote. I wired the blue wire from the remote to the black/white striped wire from the fan. Any suggestions?
