I am new to this site and this is my first post. I'm not sure what type of dog I have but I got her from an abusive pet owner for free. She has been abused all her life until I got her about a year ago. She is very skiddish and won't really eat unless she is hand fed. Even then she won't eat dog food! I have to feed her lunch meat. She is very picky so every day is a different kind of lunch meat. She drinks water just fine and has never thrown up. But sometimes she will go two to three days without eating anything. What can I do to get her to eat? I have never taken her to the vet before because I can't really afford it right now. She is a happy dog most of the time. Please give me some advice as to what to do about her eating issues.

Most dogs that are habitual poor eaters are over fed. That is surprising with a dog that was abused, but could be. Tempting the dog with rich food is nearly always the wrong thing to do.
