    Labour pains when going to the loo after having baby
    Hi my girlfriend is having really bad cramp pains almost like labour pains every time she has a bowel motion in the toilet.she had a baby 2 weeks ago is this normal and will it stop any time soon or would she need to seek medical advice.please help and if there is anyone else who had these pains can they advise on care and treatments.thank you.please advise

    If it is big concern - call the OB and ask if this is normal. I know that during labor things happen - such as a snip here or there to make room for baby - that could be what is causing the pain.

    Yes, as you describe it, it sounds normal. It takes quite a while for the uterus to return to its normal size and then stop bleeding after having a baby. So there can be a lot of cramping during that process. Having a bowel movement and using muscles around that area can cause the uterus to contract as it is sensitive at this time. Breastfeeding will also cause the same thing. It is supposed to happen. But like said above you can always confirm with her OB/GYN. Never any harm in that.
