Applying First Year choice after getting the refund
    Hi,

I came to US on July 17th 2006; filed my tax as 1040NR in Feb'07 and got both the Federal and State (GA) refunds. I recently came to know about the First Year Choice concept. Could you help me with the foll. Questions:

    1. Can I apply for the first year choice now and get the additional refund.
    2. If so what are the forms/proofs that I need to submit .

    Thanks,
    Chithramala

    Chithramala:

    1) Getting the additional refund will apply ONLY IF you are married. Otherwise, it is not worth the effort.

    2) If you are married, you would need to amend your 2006 tax return using Form 1040X.
