I have a Central Brass 3 handle tub/shower valve. It is old style with the larger seats. I replaced both valves, the diverter, and the seats. Now water will leak out of the shower in varying amounts if the water valves are opened most or all the way, even though the diverter is in the tub position. The shower works fine. When the diverter it turned to shower, little if any water comes from the tub spout. The diverter I replaced was identical to the replacment. I also replaced the tub spout, so it is not obstructed.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

When you replaced the seats did you wrap the threads with Teflon Tape?
Take the seat out of the diverter side and check to see that you didn't crossthread it when you reinstalled it. Regards Tom

Speedball, thanks. I will try that. But, I would note that my problem is not when the valve is closed against the seat (shower) but it is when it is pulled back from it (tub), if that makes any difference.

I keep coming back to the diverter seat. Could it have been installed crossthreaded? That's easy to do with brass threads. Regards, tom
