I have a problem with hot or mix on at showers and kitchen faucet--Get a whoop whoop through the pipes and the water pulsates out of the faucet... The pulsation only happens when the hot water is applied..

I waited to see if perhaps one of the other experts could come up with a solution. Up until you said you had the trouble with both the kitchen and the showervalve I was about to blame the diverter, but what's the chances of both faucets going bad at the same time? So that puts us checking out the hot water system. The only way you're going to solve this problem is to track it back to the sorce. Pulsation equals vibration. Have someone start the pulsation while you start at the water heater and check the pipes for vibration. Do this at the kitchen faucets hot water supply and the same for the shower. Somewhere the vibration will be the strongest. That's where you'll find the problem. Let us know what you find. Good luck, Tom

Thanks for the reply Tom, The problem is annoying and I will work on it this weekend..

I have a 25 year old hot water heater--There is corrosion on the flex copper pipe on the hot water supply side nearest the heater.

Probable blockage..
It is an amazing hot water heater... no problems...

A testament to Portland, Oregon's Bull Run water supply.

But I fear a new heater installation is in store for me..

I doubt it . Water hammer is more of a "bang" or ""thud" while a "whoop-whoop" sounds to me more like a high pitched vibration caused by a obstruction such as a small pebble vibrating against a seat and then blocking it for a short period causing the pulsing effect. Water hammer occurs when you shut a faucet off. This happens when you turn one on. I'm afraid to track this one down you're going to hafta be there.
