It is important to know the color of the blood. Is it bright red, dark red, or black.

This could be normal but it could also be worrisome. You definitely should see your doctor asap and please do not delay! It could be normal from hemorroids.. which can be cause from people that sit too much or have jobs that require them to sit often or hemorroids can also be caused from other things as well and sometimes these heal on there on and sometimes you can get a cream to get them to go away.

Blood in the stools can also be caused from worms or can be caused by skin irritation as well or from foods that you eat. But more seriously it can be a sign of colon cancer or rectal caner, or another type of problem or cancer related. I would defintely get a check with your doctor so that they can run tests. You may not like the tests that they run but you HAVE to have it done because it is imprtant and should not be ignored.

I don't think you should panic, but I do think you should speak to your physician about it. There are so many reasons you might have blood in your stool. Some are minor and others can be much more serious. It is important to know the colour of the blood, as J_9 said. It is also important to know if you have been experiencing any other symptoms of potential illness - for instance: constipation, diarrhea, pain, nausea, dizziness, fevers, etc.

Make a doctor's appointment. If it continues after that, or gets worse, make sure you go back. If you are suffering stomach related symptoms, push for a endoscopy of your GI tract. North American doctors can be hesitant to use them, but they are a simple, minimally invasive and relatively inexpensive tool that can save your life by finding certain fast growing cancers. Not to say that this is what you have, but if you did, early diagnosis is the key.
