    Whistling Shower
About a month ago, the city came in and repaired a main water line. Ever since we have had this terrible whistling noise coming from our upstairs shower. It only happens with the hot water, and it continues until you are done using the hot water. Also in the downstairs bathroom, when the toilet is flushed it whistles as it is filling back up. We have cut the main water source off, and emptied the water lines, and opened all of the valves, and it is doing it. I am at a lost on what else to try. Any suggestions?

It sounds like some small pebbles got sucked into your system when the city worked on the main. You did everything but flush out the supplies on the faucet and ballcock. Shut the water off to the faucet and open it up. Check the valve body and cartridge inlet ports for trash. Now turn the water back on to flush out anything that may be in the supplys. Do the same on your toilets ballcock. Good luck, Tom

Might want to check your water pressure now that the city has been "helping" you. Norms are about 45 psi. If you pull the shower head off the stem does it still whistle? Clean the aerator screen in the shower head and faucets too. Tom's on the track of debris and it's lilkely there.

You take it off and soak it in white vinegar. Good luck, Tom
