    Dispute a lien
My past land lady entered a lien against me several months after I'd moved out. My then lawyer had written her letter telling her that her bookkeeping was not legal. I'd fallen in rent and she agreed in writing to allow me to catch up at a specific time. When I made subsequent payments (on time) she subsequent each to the late month thus causing a late payment to be due. That's what the lawyer wrote her about. Upon moving in I paid her $7k in the event of my moving owing her. (Nowhere did it say non-refundable.) What she did was keep the monies and entered a judgement against me. Can I dispute this first on my credit report (need score to improve quickly) and second with the legal system? The lien is for $9k+.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

You can dispute it with the credit reporting agency, they will contact her and if she says it is a valid debt, it will remain basically, and you will have appeal the court ruling. Remember you main time to contest the lien was when she went to court against you to get the judgement to have a lien.

So you will need an attorney who can find a valid reason to contest the lien ( appeal the court rulling)
