Should the hole in the slab be re-filled, if so with what?

Before I give you unnecessary advice could you tell me if this drain was the original floor drain? Could you just attach a strainer and leave it in place or is it an eye sore?

Bob, Who said anything about a floor drain? I thought he was talking about a tub dap-out hole. Mykeh, please give us more details. Regards, Tom

A hole is in the slab around the drain pipe for the hot tub, (this work was done previously, by some one else). It is currently full of water. I'm thinking this is caused by the sump pump not working properly, or the water table is up, but then the sump pump should have gotten the water? Maybe the trap is leaking? But once I get to the bottom of that, I'm thinking the hole should be filled, and concrete put back over the top? Right? Thanks--Mike

Since hot tubs are somewhat portable until they are filled so many people place them near a floor drain since they are not connected to any other plumbing. I think we should be clear as to whether this is a hot tub or a whirlpool tub. Could you further clarify for Tom and I? No matter whart that drain pipe is there should not be standing water in it so you may have blockage or as you suspect a faulty sump. I would not advise filling the drain with concrete until we know more about your situation.

It is an existing whirlpool with the drain plumbing in tact. Thanks Mike

OK then, it's not a hot tub after all. Whirlpools are plumbed with both a water supply and a trapped drain. Since the original post said hot tub you can forget most of my answer since hot tubs have no plumbing. Tom is on the right track then so lets go with his next suggestion. If your trap is immediately below the slab you may see water. After removing any visible flange you can probably suck out the water and plug with cement but Tom may have a better idea.
