I plead no contest to a misdemeanor in Tippecanoe county, Lafayette Indiana, back in 1983. I was never taken to jail and just received what I remember being like a ticket with a court date. (not 100% sure about the details but it was an undercover cop.) I did my community service and left it at that. I appeared and made my plea of no contest and did the 40 hours of community service.

Now I want to find out if I have any information concerning this on my record. I searched:

Public Access - General Index Search

And found nothing.

How do I determine with a good deal of certainty what my record contains? Is access to arrest and court records public domain? The above site is the only one I could find for Indiana, Tippecanoe, or Lafayette.

First there all all sorts of "records" the most important is the national data base where all criminal convictions are filed. It would help if you had said what crime this was?

But your record will show the exact code violaton my number and name that you were charged with, and it will show your plead. You do understand that no contest is saying that while you don't admit your guilty, they have enough evidence to convict, it acts just like a guilty plea with one exception, the conviction can 't be used in civil court. This plea is normally used when your actions harmed someone, so that the criminal case can not be used to help in the civil case.

But it will show up on your criminal records that the police run. Only police and court people have access to this records. There are 100's of other data bases,some better than ohters, but review of charges, and pleas and sentences are all public info

Can I check national data base? If yes, then how? Also, what service or services do employers use to do criminal background checks?
