    Checking Yahoo from Office Banned
My company has installed a new internet filtering to block certain contents being searched, blocking of outside mail source (Yahoo), blocking of streaming radio, and instant messaging. I agree with the majority; however, not the outside mail source. This will only clog up our server more because employees are going to have their personal mail sent to their work account. Anyway, the murmur around the office to get around this is the set up a personal domain and your email may be checked through this. Is this true? I know Yahoo offers it but as I am at work I cannot check it out.

    Thanks in advance

I'd be careful about doing this kind of stuff, wait a few weeks and see what everyone else does to get access to personal emails, if they are cracking down on personal emails and internet use they are probably going to be monitoring what you do also.

    1. What your work wants you to do on their time is up to them. - you shouldn't be worrying about personal e-mail on their time anyway?

    2. if you're forced to send email through their work account, they can scan the emails for viruses that may compromise their systems, so to them, the extra load on the servers is hardly a bother compared to the data security it offers.

At my place as well. They were concerned about viruses pentertrating the system and the vulnerability home email accounts represent. Having your home account redirected to your work account will be caught up with; it will only be a matter of time.

You will get used to the idea that emails will have to wait until you get home. I know, not what you want to hear, but it's better all around.

Agreeing with what Capuchin said (it won't let me rate and agree) if your work cares enough to block email access they must have a reason. Unless your getting some weird things in your email you should be fine.

My old job made us use their email and I didn't care so I gave my work email address to a few select friends and family and never had a problem. If they wanted to read my plans for the weekend or shopping lists from my wife, go ahead I thought.

You can typically be fired for violating your Internet usage policy, so I would consider how important your job is before you try circumventing their filters.

One option, if you are so inclined, is to get a PDA mobile phone with an Internet plan. I can access all of my personal mail on my PDA and it doesn't jeopardize my job or my company's security.

This is the PDA phone I use (Verizon 6700):

Yes, also remember that if your company is like many, all email can be reviewed and even "erased" it may still exist in a master file of received email that your boss can review. Many of the newer laws on corportaions require them to save for possible review and law suits all correspondance in a company.
So employees using company email for person use must know there is no privacy, and all of your key strokes, all of the web sites you visit will most likely be available to be reviewed, and as such most will have those sites with some names noted for notification.

Trying to cheat your compay is just asking to be fired, so I guess the use of personal email is more important than your paycheck,
Also do you want a record of computer crime ( yes by passing company securitty) when future employors are doing back ground searches on you
