    Freezing bank accounts
I was recently called and told that I was being pursued for an old credit card debt. They did not have my forwarding address, therefore, I have not been served. There is currently no judgement against me. I was injured on my job and am currently not working due to physical therapy with workman's comp. I do have a joint checking account with my girlfriend and am not sure if they are aware of it. If they do find it, will I know before they try to freeze my account? Her money is the only money going into the account right now. Do they need to serve me before they can do anything with this account? If I am served, will we have time to close the account before court and before they get to whatever money we may or may not have in it? They have my current address, however, I am getting ready to move to PA and they are aware of that. Just wondering if we need to close the account immediately or if we have a little time.

    Thanks

Ok, yes you are "suppose" to be served first but to be honest read about 2 to 4 questions a night here and you will see that many at least claim they never get a notice, ** the notice sent to an old address and they say they don't know a new one at the time you were being served, or perhaps they don't serve but swear you were. For whatever they go to court without you knowing it, and get a judgement ( now you can get it dismissed for not being served property, but they will have it in effect till you take them back to court.

And they freeze the account yes she can get her funds "unfroze" but again you have to take them back to court and prove it was not your money, but her money in the account. So best bet, close the account and have one in only her name, it is a lot easier than to find one day all of her and your money is frozen, you can't buy any gas, or your rent check bounces.

So to be on safe side, close the account
