    Update
Well, Just thought I would give a little update to everyone. Just went to the doc today, my 37th week check up. After telling him about my previous labor and delivery with my first son, and my fears of having the same things happen again, he told me that if at 39 weeks I was considered favorable, then they would induce, but if not, then they wouldn't. He said that is probably why I ended up having to be induced twice last time, because even at 41 weeks, things weren't favorable enough to get things started with just one try, esp. with him being my first baby. After that he checked me and said that things have not progressed much at all since last week, (dont think I'm even a one yet)and that he hoped baby would come out on his own, but he had a feeling that he was going to end up making it hard on me. *sigh* that's what I was afraid of. SOOOO, if we are both getting the right messages, it appears I will end up going the whole 40 and have to be induced again... hopefully just once... So long as he is healthy, I am fine with it... I am just afraid of having to go through the same uncertainty and fear that we did with my first son. :(

I know my wife was induced. It did not progress as fast as the doctor wanted so ended up being pretty forceful, did not even let us know what she was doing, but ended up surprisenly breaking the water.

Best of luck to you in the upcoming event. May I ask, I do not remember. What kind of uncertainty did you face with your first boy?

Don't know your previous circumstances, but wish you luck and a healthy baby. Relax. You and baby will be fine and in a few weeks you'll be at home looking into a brand new pair of eyes...

He was a week over due, and they induced me(twice, first time didn't work) because he was getting too big. 8lb 21 1/2 inch. He ended up having mechonium staining, and they didn't make him breath right away because they were trying to get all the stuff suctioned out, then it took them a few minutes to get him to breath. I didn't get to see him until 5 hours after he was born, they just wisked him right out of the room because they needed to put him in an incubator and start an IV in his belly button, etc, in case he had inhaled some of the mechonium. He was in there for 2 days, I could only hold him for feedings, were in the hospital for four days. Luckily he's a healthy and strong and smart little boy, and there was nothing more serious, but it was very scary for first time parents. Would rather not have that happen again.

Maybe you induction should be done earlier then 40 weeks. My wife was induced at 39 weeks. Especially if the baby is at a good weight. Strong.
I hope you do not mind me suggesting this. Your babies are of good weight, so why not before the baby gets too big to start the induction. Yes, there are riskes to inducing but for my wife we were 1 and half drive away from the hospital and her having epilepsy we did not want to take any chanches and we wanted everything planned out and all scheduled and it turned out fine.

I do wish the best for you. Good luck with everything. I am sure maybe this time around maybe they will use something stronger to start the induction.

Oh absolutely,I am all for being induced early, in fact I already talked to the doctor about that. He said that if I was favorable at 39 weeks, they would try to induce me, but they wanted to wait until I was favorable. But my point is, I wasn't favorable with my first son, even though I was a week over due, so I really doubt I will be this time around either, as things are progressing exactly the same as they did last time. I was hoping that they would try to induce at 38 weeks( will be 38 weeks on wednesday) but he didn't seem like he wanted to try at that point. I go in for my next appointment next Friday, and have a different doctor(one of my favorites) and I think I will ask him if he will induce me the next week if I still haven't made progress. Not sure what else to do.

Well, was having some fairly uncomfortable contractions last night. Lasting 60 seconds, 5 minutes apart, for half an hour. Was just about to go in to the hospital, and they stopped :0( They advised us that if they are 10 minutes or less apart, last 30-70 seconds, and keeps it up for half an hour to call the doc, so I was just about it, and it all stopped. Oh well... I guess it's a good sign though, that things are moving along and gearing up... I hope. I really want to go into this the natural way this time.

Well, Thought I would add to the updates. Will be 40 weeks on Wednesday.Went to the docs yesterday, and he said I'm still not making ANY progress. He said they won't do anything until I am 41 weeks, because if I'm not in a favorable position, I am more likely to end up having a c-section. SOOOO, looks like I'm in for another over due baby...

Oh, sweetie, I am so sorry to hear you have to continue to wait. But remember, they have to make sure baby's lungs are ready to breathe room air.

That is true, but at this point it shouldn't be a problem. He said the main issue here is that I am not effacing/dilating.(same as before) and they don't want to induce me before I am in a favorable position because If I don't progress quickly enough because of the lack of dilating/effacing, I will be put into high risk for a c-section. He keeps dropping, he's at -2 right now. But for some reason, it seems my body always refuses to cooperate without getting kicked into gear with pitocin. My first son was ready to go, lungs were great, but then he had the mechonium, and had to be put on the antibiotics for his lungs because they were afraid he breathed some of it in. SO, he ended up with lung issues anyway, and has been more susceptible to colds, and bronchial issues since then(got rsv at 6 months) So, I would rather not have this happen with this baby... plus I am afraid of how big he will be by 41 weeks.

Your fears are well founded, have you considered just going ahead with a C-Section to avoid the potential complications you had before?

I have considered it... but then you also run into the issues of future children. It limits how many kids you can have later, and possibly brings up other complications as a result. If it will keep my baby healthy, I would definitely do it. But I would rather they just try to induce me by 40 weeks, and if I end up in a c-section because I am just not progressing fast enough, then there won't be much difference, but at least I will have tried. I just don't know why they won't try before. If I am going to end up having a c-section because he is too big, because he's over due, or him end up in an incubator with a I've again, I don't see how trying to induce me one week before would make such a difference to them... I don't know how to make them see my concerns on this and take it seriously. They seem to just keep brushing my concerns off. I get to see my favorite doctor on Wednesday, and he seems the most willing to work with me in this situation then the others. They just rush you in and out of the room, and don't even give you time to ask questions or anything. This doctor I saw yesterday didn't even help me sit up after the exam. My fav. Docs nurse was in there with us, and she had to do it. Its like they think I am more concerned about my discomfort, then my kids health, when really I just want him to come out healthy, even if it means I have to be induced, or have a c-section. This is a huge concern for us right now... add into it that my husband has a job waiting for him in a state, 9 1/2 hours away that we have been putting on hold till baby comes, and the stress level rises.

Okay, I am curious what you mean by "issues of future children" and "it limits how many children you can have later"

Can you clear this up for me?

Hmmm, women can now have vag births after C-section where it was not the case before.

There are several women in our community who have 6 or more children who have had C-Sections...

(remember I live in a rural podunk community, we call our cops Barney Fife)

But the issues of C-sections are not nearly as complicated as they were in years past.

Yeah, I know about VBACs, and so I wasn't worried about having a c-section, but then I found out that here, where we live now, they won't allow VBACs. If you have a c-section, you have to get one from now on. And then they limit you on it, depending on how much scar tissue you build up.

Really!! You taught me something new yet again.

I was under the impression that VBACs were allowed if the incision was, I believe, a horizontal bikini line incision, but no other.

Yeah, that use to be the way it was. But at this hospital, they have started to enforce that no matter what incision your received, you have to get a c-section from then on. I have been told that its starting to become more popular in a lot of other places now too. I just want to TRY to have this baby now, and then if I need a c-section so be it. I just don't want to end up looking at my baby in an incubator wondering to myself if I could have prevented it if I had just had him by my due date... not to mention in the beginning they were telling me they didn't want me to go over my due date because I had such big babies... I don't know... Hopefully I can get my doctor to agree on Wednesday... thanks J9
