What is the opposite of Thatcher's defense of the Falklands ?
That would be Keir Starmer paying Mauritius to take possession of the Chagos Islands . 1814 Treaty of Paris ending the Napoleonic wars; the Brits took possession of the island chain from France . They grouped them with Mauritius ,1300 miles away from the nation.

Mauritius gained independence in 1968. The Brits in 1965 had created the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) to separate the islands from the mainland in 1965. The next year ,with the US ;they created a strategic military base on the island of Diego Garcia. The US Seabees built the air strip and it has served as an important base for US and Brit operations in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf .

That was status quo until 2019 . The UN International Court of Justice (ICJ ) or better known as the "World Court" decided (non-binding )that the Brit claim was illegal.

The Labour party in Britain does not believe in national sovereignty . Remember they opposed the BREXIT . Evidently Brit Prime Minister Kier Starmer is all in on giving the island chain away . He struck a deal where not only will the islands be handed over ;but the Brits will pay for it
UK hands sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius

Well what about the Chagossians ? What do they think ?
Not surprisingly they are critical about the fact that they had no say in the matter . Chagossians are neither historically or culturally linked to Mauritius . They have their own language and customs Further the deal permits Mauritius to colonize the island with their own people and control of any resettlement . Chagossians in the diaspora want the choice to return . But the deal excludes their choice.

The new PM of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam wants to extract more money for the deal. Starmer ;with the spine of a jelly fish will probably agree.

Under the deal the US would keep their lease of Diego Garcia for 99 years . But who knows what a renegotiated deal would look like ? I'm frankly surprised that the deal was not finalized before Trump took office. He will never agree to terms where the US would give up a strategic base......... unlike Clueless Joe.

    WSJ adds more information

Reports suggest that under the original October deal, the U.K. would give up the outer Chagos Islands but pay £9 billion to Mauritius to retain control over Diego Garcia for 99 years. It could then unilaterally extend the lease for another 40 years. But Mauritians elected a new prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam, in November, and Mr. Ramgoolam swiftly reopened negotiations. Mr. Ramgoolam has now announced that under a new deal, payments from the U.K. will be linked to inflation, leading to reports that the price had effectively doubled to £18 billion. Mr. Starmer denies this. Mr. Ramgoolam also said that Mauritius will be able to veto a 40-year extension of the U.K.’s lease over Diego Garcia. Britain’s Foreign Office denies that, too.
Either way, any deal of this sort would pose great strategic threats to the U.S. Mauritius is friendly with China. Adam Peters, a commander of the Diego Garcia air base from 2001-03, warned on Feb. 6 that Mauritian control of the outer Chagos Islands could lead China to “start redeveloping them and installing all sorts of spying equipment” and even weapons that “could shoot down aircraft using the air base” on Diego Garcia.
