Harris stands tall for the truth? No, not really.
"Just yesterday in the state of Florida, they decided middle school students will be taught that enslaved people benefited from slavery. They insult us in an attempt to gaslight us, and we will not stand for it," Harris said, referencing new curriculum approved by the Florida Department of Education on Wednesday that includes the history of slavery in the U.S.
There is not an ounce of truth in that statement. Even a CNN journalist was able to find it out.

CNN "State of the Union" host Dana Bash asked the panelists about how Democrats have been calling for Harris to "get out there more."
"What is amazing to me [is] that how little Kamala Harris apparently has to do that she can read something on Twitter one day and be on the airplane the next to make something literally out of nothing. This is a completely made-up deal. I looked at the standards, I even looked at an analysis of the standards, in every instance where the word slavery or slave was used, I even read the statement of the African-American scholars that wrote the standards – not [Florida Gov.] Ron DeSantis, but the scholars," he said.

She is not the only one. The state's curriculum is being intentionally distorted ;maybe not to the degree she goes ; but still distorted by many so called responsible journalists and pundits .

CBS headlines the fact that Florida curriculum says that slaves benefitted from skills . Only if you read deep into the article do you find that it is stated in a" benchmark clarification" of a broader lesson plan

Florida's new Black history curriculum says "slaves developed skills" that could be used for "personal benefit" - CBS News

It is buried on page 6 of the curriculum ....SS.68.AA.2.3

Examine the various duties and trades performed by slaves (e.g., agricultural work, painting, carpentry, tailoring, domestic service, blacksmithing, transportation). Benchmark Clarifications: Clarification 1: Instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.

If the Florida teachers had merely lied about the possibilities of boys becoming girls and vice-versa, then it would have been fine, but to actually suggest that learning about carpentry as a slave could potentially be beneficial in a post-slavery world? To the gallows!!

There are 191 items in the curriculum covering many aspects of slavery . None of then are complementary. This one is the closest . It is also a truth . After slavery there was a migration of former slaves to the North . Many were immediately employable because of the skills they learned .

Dr. William Allen, former chairman of the US Commission on Civil Rights, was one of the major contributors to the standards ., He along with co-creator Dr. Frances Presley Rice wrote a joint statement about the criticism the new standards are facing from Kam the Sham

Alex Lanfranconi on Twitter: "Want the truth on Florida’s African American History Standards? See statement below from experts who crafted them. “Any attempt to reduce slaves to just victims of oppression fails to recognize their strength, courage and resiliency during a difficult time in American history.” https://t.co/7pR8GBFu2l" / Twitter

The Dems will get away with this because Repubs immediately go on the defensive whenever matters of race in the subject. Kam should be called out for her blatant lies about the curriculum; especially since she is doubling down on her claim.

This could make it interesting. DeSantis has invited Harris, already scheduled to be in Florida today, to meet with him to settle the issue regarding Florida's curricular standards pertaining to slavery. I would say the odds of KH accepting that invite would be pretty near zero.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis challenged Vice President Kamala Harris to come to Florida and have a discussion with him about the state's new African American History curriculum, which she has derided as "propaganda" and "lies" over an assertion that slaves benefitted from skills they developed in captivity.
DeSantis invited Harris to meet with him in Tallahassee, the state's capital, as early as Wednesday of this week in a letter that blasted the Biden administration and accused the vice president of attempting to "score cheap political points."
The Florida governor, who is also seeking the GOP nomination for the presidency, said in the Monday letter that his office posted on social media that Biden officials had "repeatedly disparaged our state and misinformed Americans" about the state's Black history standards.

Borrowed this from an on line comment ...... Harris replied

"I heard that Governor DeSantis challenged me to debate. Debating is a way of debating things that can be debated. It's debatable if debating would be good to debate with him. But what's not debatable is that he wants to debate. A debate with me. So I'm debating with myself if I should debate with him - in a debate."

She says it is unnecessary to debate slavery.

Kamala Harris attacks 'unnecessary debate' over Florida's Black History curriculum in ABC interview (yahoo.com)

Gotta give her credit . She is really sticking her neck out saying slavery was bad.
