How do you fix Scoliosis
I am 16 years old and have scoliosis. I want to know if there is anyway besides surgery to get it fixed. My doctors don't want to talk about it much or do much with it because I also have a disease called osteogenisis imperfecta which basically means I have brittle bones. I want to get it done because I don't want to regret not getting it when I have back pain later on in my life.

Unfortunately, surgery for scoliosis is used only as a last resort and your OI may put you in a high risk category for surgery. How bad do you have it? There are exercises that can be done, I believe, to help strengthen your back, and there are braces that can be worn.
If your doctor does not want to discuss the option of surgery it may very well be that you are not a candidate for the surgery.

I also have a slight curverture of the spine, but its not that bad. But swimming is a really good back muscle builder. I've done swimming for nearly two years and you can tell a real difference . You can bearly see it on me anymore

There is no way to get rid of scoliosis but you can build your muscles by swimming,walking,exercise,and pelvic tilts,etc... physical therapy can help you learn the different exercises.. your young so now is the time to get a head start on building a beautiful perfect body.. stay healthy will pay off when you get older

I have osteogenisis imperfecta too.. my back was super straight all the way up until I turned 19 and then my doctor told me it was curved. I was shocked... come to find out it was being gradually caused by one of my legs being shorter than the other. And genetics of course. I broke my leg from ankle to hip as a young child and I guess it just never grew at the same rate as the other.. so one hip sits lower, one shoulder lower, and my back curves to compensate. At this point, its about keeping it from getting worse. Stay in shape, work out your muscles, perhaps even wear a girdle/back brace to straighten out your back. Whatever you do.. stay active! Don't go jumping off buildings or pushing beyond your limits, we know how brittle we are, but keep that body strong! Don't make the same mistakes I did. My back is seriously messed up.. I'm 24 years old and I have spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, osteopenia, and arthritis in my back. I have arthritis in some other bones too.. but man.. If I had just stayed more active I wouldn't be as bad off as I am now. I really wish society was more understanding of our bone disease.. people just don't seem to understand what its like to be so young but have the bones of an old person! Stay strong. Our bones may be brittle, but our minds are strong!

I just found out today I have scoliosis. I am only 16 said excersizing will help but won't take it away
