Trump's Latest Big Lie
From his Saturday rally:
“The left is now rationing life-saving therapeutics based on race, discriminating against and denigrating, just denigrating white people to determine who lives and who dies,” Trump said.
"Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."

Except that what he said is true. As usual he exaggerated the information (From Newsweek. "Trump, however, exaggerated New York's guidelines on Saturday.), but his statement is still based on a genuine policy in NYC.
New York City will take a patient’s race into account when distributing potentially life-saving COVID treatments, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene revealed on their website.
The city will “consider race and ethnicity when assessing individual risk,” reads the agency’s official guidance from Dec. 20, which adds that “longstanding systemic health and social inequities” can contribute to an increased risk of dying from COVID-19.
https://nypost.com/2022/01/01/nyc-co...vid-treatment/
Non-white race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity should be considered a risk factor, as longstanding systemic health and socialinequities have contributed to an increased risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19.

Now if we want to have an interest in presidents lying, we could look at the current office holder.
President Joe Biden keeps telling lies. He just told a New Hampshire crowd of “having had a house burn down with my wife in it — she got out safely, God willing.” In fact, the Associated Press reports, it was a minor kitchen fire, with no damage visible from outside.
He’s overblown the incident in the past, albeit not as much. Nor can he stop talking about a chat with an Amtrak conductor in his seventh year as vice president, when the guy retired 15 years before Biden became veep and had died by the year of the tale.
Of course it's entirely possible that in his current muddled state, he really believes the stories to be true.

Really?
Trump said, "“The left is now rationing life-saving therapeutics based on race..."

what Trump said is what some states like NY are doing to address the guidelines
Marco Rubio wrote a letter to Dr. Janet Woodcock ;acting Director FDA addressing the same concerns Trump mentioned .
A fact sheet for healthcare providers using the monoclonal antibody, sotrovimab, states that race and ethnicity can be considered “medical conditions or factors [that] may also place individual patients at high risk for progression to severe COVID19…”1 As a result, some state health departments, including the New York Department of Health, have followed suit by establishing race-based criteria for administering other COVID-19 treatments

In the meantime, no comment is made on the guy who really IS lying. So is there any real concern about lying here, or is this more of a political thread?

Do you think your posts support that statement?

Definition of "denigrate". criticize unfairly; disparage.
Does refusing med care on the basis of a person's skin color amount to disparaging? I would think so. Still, at the very least, Trump at least had some solid support for his statement. Biden, on the other had, was just telling a wild tale. So why are we talking about Trump and not JB if lying is really the concern?
That's a good one.

What you are missing is that an attempt is being made to get certain minorities vaccinated since their numbers are less than the wider groups, endangering themselves AND others.
To cast this, as you and Trump are doing, as an attempt to determine who lives and who dies is typical of right-wing spinning to make a false point.

Except that (vaccination...prevention) is not what was being discussed. What was under discussion was TREATMENTS for Covid being prioritized, not by need alone, but by race.

The point is that Trump had good reason to say what he said. He exaggerated to be sure, but it was certainly not a flat lie similar to the two told by the pres.

Blacks and vaccine hesitancy:
"While Black people have experienced much higher burdens from Covid-19 despite contracting the disease at a similar rate to whites, they have been disproportionately vaccinated at lower rates than white people.'Access matters and it matters a lot,' Gary Bennett (Professor of Psychology, Neuroscience, Global Health, and Medicine at Duke, as well as director of Duke Digital Health and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education) said. One clear example of decreased access for Black Americans is that fewer vaccination sites are located in areas with high concentrations of Black people.
However, Bennett said that access does not simply equal place. 'How much friction are you creating in this process?' he prompted, pointing to examples of complicated registration systems, inadequate public transportation to vaccine sites, or overall distance from a location. All of these factors already limit who is able to access vaccinations without the added influences of reduced vaccine uptake due to vaccine hesitancy."

Oh well. Each to his own, I guess. Trump had information to back up his words. Biden just made up two wild tales. Guess who we're talking about.
Stinkin politics.

All good reasons to rebut Trump's sick statement.

Now substitute the word voting for vaccines and vaccinations.

Here is the basic strategy being employed here.
"Trump lied when he said A."
"No, there is support for him saying A."
"Oh really? Well then look at this documentation for C."
"Fine, but Trump made no reference to C."
"Oh? Well substitute F and H for C then. Now what do you think?"
"I think...I shouldn't say what I think. I can only say there is solid support for Trump saying A. We were not talking about C, et al."
It's the strategy of deciding that when you cannot support your original statement, and in fact your conclusion is contradicted, then change the topic to something else. And all the while the guy who really HAS lied, namely Mr. Biden, is not mentioned, which makes it clear that lying is only a problem when Trump, or some other con, is suspected of it. Biden? He can lie at will and no problem.
It's a strange, strange world that some people live in.
