    Please help with pci question.
I recently bought an mp3 player and when manipulating files, got a message that my usb was 1.1 and not 2. Ok, so off I go to the cp store and purchase a belkin hi-speed usb 2.0 pci card. When I crack my case, I discover my pci slots don't appear to be compliant with the tab on the new card. The card has two small tabs (1 on either end) and a large center tab. My slots will only accommodate a card with one small tab and one large tab. Am I missing something here, or just out of luck?
    All help greatly appreciated.

There is a new version of PCI. The board you bought may support only the new version. I thinks its called Enhanced PCI. You may have to get a board that supports the older version.

    Scott,
I appreciate the reply, but now am more confused then ever. Would the enhanced pci be the card I've purchased? i.e. the 3 tab variety? When you talk about getting a board that supports the older version, I'm thinking that's my problem, it DOES support the older version, not the new. The motherboard I have now accepts the 2 tab variety pci card. To my way of thinking, don't I have to look at upgrading to a motherboard that would accept the new technology (ie 3 tab variety)? Course, if this is the case, I'm thinking I may as well just upgrade to a motherboard which includes the hi-speed usb technology and forget about the add-on.:banghead:
Please... someone help clarify this for me. :o

Just noticed the install instructions say to plug the card into my computors pci version 2.1 slot. I'm sure this is a clue. :D Maybe someone here can enlighten me as to the various versions of pci slot and how to recognize same?
    Thanks

Sounds like you have the newer PCI express card, As Scott says, you should take the USB card back and get the older PCI version of the card. You should still be able to get USB2 adapters for the older PCI just explain the problem at the shop.

Thanks Stu, I had a brain cramp and couldn't remember the name of the newer PCI specification; PCI Express.

Thanks all for the responses. I figured out all I had to do was plug the card into the existing pci slot. Apparently, the separations between the second small tab and the large tab are not necessary in the slot. Jammed it in and away we go. :)
    Thanks again.

    Lol

Just remember that you do NOT need usb 2.0 for a 2.0 device. The only problem you have is that it will not use the usb 2.0 speeds. I will work fine with the usb 1.1 speed.
