We are fairly computer-savy people; everyone in the family has used had their own computer for years. I have an Averatec laptop and we are all set for wireless use. I bought my son an Levono laptop, so he could have the convenience of wireless and portable computer use. He cannot use the wireless feature. The Levono recognizes the available networks ( our Linksys and the neighbor's Belknap), connection is strong (so it says), but "the host cannot be found". The Levono has no trouble getting the host and connecting to the internet if it is hard wired, but the wireless just won't connect. This is not an issue of location, too many walls, e.g.. Does anyone have any clue as to why this is so?

What security are you running on your router ?
I find the best way to set up a new connection is to,
1/ turn OFF all security.
2/ make a solid connection
3/ enable WEP or WPA encryption (you'll need to enter the keys on the connected machines)
4/ enable MAC filtering
5/ Disable SSID broadcast.

This will produce a well secured wireless connection for you.

Don't know the make or model. But I had a similar prob. My fujitsu has a "softkey" at the top of the keyboard that enables and disables the access to wireless router. Do you have anything similar?

I do not know it you have a answer yet as I have not been on here for a long time but you have to set the encryption code on the lap top that matches your rotor so other people can not steal your internet, this code you have put in,

Try manually adding your ISP's DNS server entries on the laptop, that solves 90% on 'no internet' on wireless network issues.

1.Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
2.Right-click the network connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
3.On the General tab (for a local area connection), or the Networking tab (for all other connections), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
4.If you want to manually configure DNS server addresses, click Use the following DNS server addresses, and then type the preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server IP addresses in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server boxes.

I'm assuming you mean a Lenovo Thinkpad. If the unit sees your network and others, then its working properly. If its not making a connection then you have to look at security settings. Also the Workgroup settings.

I agree with Scottgem I think it is a security setting that is not set right
