    Mugged inside Walmart
My mother was mugged inside Walmart store. She was pushed to the ground and hurt while greeters watched and no one helped. The camera inside the store was told to have been fuzzy and didn't get a clear picture of the man. But it was never shown to her. The camera to the outside of the store was not working because it didn't not have a tape in it. Now she has to change her locks at the house (her keys were in her purse) and she also must change the locks to her car. She has had to cancel all credit cards and put a freeze on her checks. She is also in pain. A police report was filed and pictures of her knee were taken at the station. After calling and pricing things we feel we need a lawyer to help pay for everything. She is retired and living on social security. What type of lawyer do we look for and do we have a case? Thanks!

I am sorry this happened your poor mother. Well you can be sure that walmart will not accept any responsibility. A good lawyer will speak to you over the phone for free and tell you if, there is anything you can do. But beware, as the old saying goes "don't ask a barber if you need a haircut."
Be leary of any lawyer who wants you to pay up front.

    Hello age:

I think your mom has a great case. What kind of lawyer? A civil litigator.

She should spend the day on the phone shopping for lawyers. Find one who she can establish good communication with. She should also see if she can hire one on a contingency basis. That would mean that she wouldn't have to pay unless she won. However, I'm not sure if she'll find an attorney who will do that with THIS particular case.

PS> She should move fast so that they don't destroy the tapes...

If your greeters are like ours 70 year old men or women, what were they suppose to do, most employees have strict rules in many business, not to use physcial force but to watch and testify.

I will disagree while walmart may settle since there is not much actual damage she would have had or cost, but I doubt if they can be held liable legaally since nothing they did caused this action.

But as excon said, what you will need is a civil attorney who does lawsuits against businesses mostly

I will give an example of what happened to me personally outside of a Kroger store in Atlanta, I was walking in, when a person who had just robbed the store was running out, as he ran past me I basically floored him and as he got back up, threw him into the atm outside the store. He tried to sue me for his injuies because he was not threatening me or harming me in any way. ( the only reason I got out of that law suit was because I was a police officer , although I was out of my jurisdiction area) So I had a legal responsibility to act where a civilian would not have that responsibility to act.
