From a father of 5, and grandfather of 12.

Throw away all of those baby books, give the baby love, feed baby when hungry,
Change baby when soiled and give the baby lots of attention.

Beyond that, don't smoke or allow anyone to smoke around the baby,
Keep fights and bad behavior away from baby.

Put the babies needs and health above personal wants.

This site is good for specific questions. You question is very broad, and there are countless books, booklets, and calendars (when to expect what). There are online blogs and sites just for motherhood.

I definitely would own a book or two.

For now, focus on making any lifestyle changes that you know would be healthy while pregnant.

Later, you will hear and read many different ideas about various parenting topics. Try what makes sense to you; what you feel will work in your household. Unless it is a health or safety issue, there isn't always a right or wrong way, only different ways as you will find that what works for a friend's or family member's child may not work for your child ( a good source of advice/ideas can sometimes be from parents whose child you like being around).

Sometimes it is trying different approaches and learning what works and what doesn't for your child.

You can get the basics from books, websites, friends and family. Your local hospital or birthing center may offer newborn care classes too.

You will add love, patience, guidance, discipline, time, attention, and humor along the way. Model what you want your child to do and how you would like them to behave as they learn much more from what you do, and don't do, than by what you say.

Thank you all for the caring advice and wonderful suggestions. Was looking for something good to become a great parent. I keep on reading books although I am not very much in to reading stuffs. I prefer to explore the things on net. While searching on net I found this link of parenting advice very useful and worthy.
