Identifying the Impossible Song, It is very dear to us.
My best friend and I work at Best Buy. Our store uses a store-stock MP3 player with preloaded songs to demo our stereo units. One particular song caught our attention immediately, and we've searched endlessly for the source. I've tried Googling the lyrics, scouring the MP3 file for an ID3 tag, and downloading song identification programs with no luck. Our search has brought us a lot closer together, but I'm ready to know the answer.

The song could definitely be called a folk rock song. It reminds me of Dave Matthews or Hootie & The Blowfish, really.

It starts with an all-guitar intro. The lyrics, as I hear them, are as follows:

    Yesterday, yeah you’re feelin’ short
You wanna be down with me
I wanna be down with you

Ask me, babe why I feel this way
    Baby I’m not obsessed
But only will time will tell

Things I do to you are wrong
The things you do to me
Baby, I’ll be stronger than I seem to say

It’s been a while since I last got down
Would you mind coming to my house
    Tonight with me

    Baby, come home with me
    Baby, come home with me

The way I seem to notice you
The way you seem to notice me
Because satin sheets on summer nights –
    ??? candle lights
We’ll spend some time, close down the blinds
    Shut out the lights,
So baby come home with me

    Yesterday yeah you’re feelin’ short
You wanna be down with me
I wanna be down with you
Ask me babe why I feel this way
Baby, I’m not obsessed, but only will time will tell

The way I seem to notice you
The way you seem to notice me
Because satin sheets on summer nights
    ??? candle lights
We’ll spend some time, close down the blinds.
    Shut out the lights,
    Baby come home with me

    Yesterday yeah, you’re feeling short,
You wanna be down with me
I wanna be, I wanna be
    Yesterday yeah, you’re feeling short,
You wanna be down with me
I wanna be, I wanna be, oh

    Down with you x4

Yesterday… ahhh HAAAA, I’m feelin’ short
    Yesterday… AAAhhhhhh, you’re feeling short

    Yesterday yeah you’re feeling short,
You wanna be down with me
    I wanna be, I wanna be…

    Yesterday yeah you’re feeling short,
You wanna be down with me
    I wanna be, I wanna be…
    Down with you

    Yeah, down with you…

This song means a lot to the two of us. It truly boggles my mind that I've tried so many methods of identification and yet I haven't received a shred of information on it. Please give us your time and identify this song for the two of us.

    Thanks in advance...

I also tried to find the song on the Internet. No luck.

Have you tried asking a manager at Best Buy if there is a list of the songs that are played to demonstrate the stereo units?

If the songs are that catchy, then knowing what the songs and artists are would be a way to further engage customers who might want to buy the units.

Yeah, it's very strange that no-one can find any info on this song!

If it's used to demonstrate stereo equipment there is a very real chance that it was written and recorded specifically for that purpose. Are there any other songs on there that are unknown like this?

    Clough:
I don't think the songs on this unit are pre-approved Best Buy songs. A couple of them are pretty vulgar, which definitely wouldn't fly at any major retailer. I get the feeling that a past employee took it upon him or herself to transfer these songs to the MP3 player. The managers definitely won't know the answer to this one, I'm sure of that.

    iAMfromHuntersBar:
There's a chance, you have a point. But to be honest, I think it's from a professional artist doing his own work. I can't place my finger on why, it just doesn't seem like the kind of song written for stereo demonstration. I think there would be more variation in dynamics and a deeper arrangement if they were going for a stereo-demo song... There are many unidentified songs on the player, but this is the only one that catches my attention. I'll try to decipher some of the lyrics in hopes that it's from the same artist, that might take us a step closer...

Thanks for your time, both of you! =)

No, I came up with nothing... even after scouring the best buy website..
