    How do you know you have bird mites?
    Borax works in two ways for treating mites – eliminating the parasites on the skin and eradicating them from the home. A natural mineral, borax is a particularly effective cleaning agent. Used in small doses, borax cleanses the skin and can be used as a house cleaner to eliminate mites.

    Assuming the source of the bird mites has been removed and the area treated, just about any detergent wash will get the mites off your skin. If you need to keep them off until the area treatment has time to work, most of the DEET insect repellants will work for about 6 - 8 hours.
