    Gray pvc veres white pvc pipe
    IS it safe to use gray pvc pipe for drinking water in the home? Gray pvc from the meter to the feed in to home, is this safe to do thanks

    Have not seen gray Schedule 40 PVC, only white. There used to be a Schedule 80 PVC that was gray but never saw used in a house. Only gray PVC I know of today is NMT for wiring which is not NSF approved for potable water. Have seen Gray polybutylene which I would not use. Most street box to house runs are Polyethylene or PEX. Read the piping markings. What schedule does it say?

    Sounds like the gray PVC is actually plastic conduit used for electrical wiring.

    From reading this I can detect no difference other than color.

    This compound shall be white or gray in color as specified, and shall be approved by NSF International for use with potable water (NSF Std 61).

    PVC MATERIALS

    The material used in the manufacture of the pipe shall be rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound, Type 1 Grade 1, with a Cell Classification of 12454 as defined in ASTM D1784, trade name designation H707 PVC. This compound shall be white or gray as specified, and shall be approved by NSF International for use with potable water (NSF Std 61).
