L1 visa on Per-diem and salary in Home country
I work in in the Indian office of a US company. In 2015 March, company brought me to USA on L1B visa and I worked till Nov 2015 (close to 250 days). During my L1 assignment, I was paid full salary in India. Company provided a furnished service apartment for accommodation. I was also provided a corporate Amex credit card for meeting my expenses with a daily usage limit of $70. I did not have any pay stub in US and all my salary and tax deductions were done in India. Having gone though some forums, I read that I owe tax in US if my stay in USA is more than 183 days. Can some one advice please ?

Yes, you DO owe taxes on the income earned while you were located in the U.S.. Even though the income was paid in India.

However, because of the Foreign Tax Credit for taxes paid to India, it is likely you have little if any tax liability to the IRS. However, you STILL have to file a tax return (Form 1040NR). You may also be able to claim deductions for some of your daily living costs even though they were reimbursed. It depends on WHERE in the United States you worked.

If you want professional help filing this tax return, this IS what I do. You can contact me at the email address in my profile.
