So your g/f gets jealous and thinks you and your daughter are too clingy because you hold hands. If that is all you do, tell your g/f to get a life and move on. She doesn't want to be a mother figure.

I agree with tickle, but it isn't clear which is the big deal here - jealousy or weird. It's tempting to ask you what else (if anything) exactly she thinks is weird, but if you don't think there's anything that a father shouldn't be doing when being affectionate, then your girlfriend has to go.

Just as an example, some people think a kiss on the lips is inappropriate, while others think it's fine. I think it's fine - father with son or daughter, mother with son or daughter. After some years, children pull away more, and it's all normal, as long as parents let them. And they have a good loving basis upon which to grow.

I agree with Joy. You say jealous, and then you say weird. What, if anything, would there be for the girlfriend to find weird?

My 13 year old daughter still holds my hand when we cross a street, or sometimes when we're shopping. My 17 year old son still hugs and kisses me. Affection isn't weird, and if she's jealous of normal affection, than she has to go, and the sooner the better. This is your daughter, she will always be in your life. If the girlfriend can't handle the affection and love you have for your daughter, than she needs to find someone else, someone without children, and you need to find someone that understands the relationship you have with your child, a relationship you'll always have, no matter who comes along.

But I do have to ask, what does she consider weird? The use of that word is bothering me a lot.

Maybe this is something to talk about before it gets out of hand.

People are different about signs of affection. And of course, how much, if you have the daughter 2 times a week (I think that is what I understood) do you never stop holding hands ? What or is there there affection, and what is it.

Esp in a divorce situation, a child often feels the need for more attention, since they feel divided or confused over the issues. My 15 year old son, goes to his mother, twice a year (for 6 weeks each) for the two weeks or so before he goes, he is extremely "clingy" since he feels torn in leaving.

So much of this story missing.

But a girlfriend, if she is living with you, is really still a step mother, without the marriage, and has to be willing to take the role, to a man with a child.
