Spouse seeking L2 visa while being pregnant
    Hi,

I am working for a extremely reputed company as a software engineer. I am suppose to go to USA for a long term assignment (above 7 months) on L1.

My wife (also a software engineer) is 4 months pregnant would take temporary leave from her company and like to go with me during this period.

My question is will she be able to get L2 visa as she is pregnant. And again would she get the insurance benefits as the delivery of the baby would take place during this tenure in USA.

    Please send us your advice.

If she is going to be in late second trimester or in early third trimester at the time of travel, her visa might be rejected for health reasons (unfit for travel). It depends solely on the discretion of the visa counselor. In my opinion, if she 'looks' pregnant and is applying for a dependent visa (i.e. it is not necessary for her to travel), the visa officer will reject her application.

Several airlines do not issue tickets to women over 28 weeks pregnant.

As far as the health insurance is concerned, I am pretty sure that it will cover the expenses. Ask your HR to contact their counterparts in USA. The HR in your employer's US office can contact the health insurance provider and confirm it for you.

Do you have family to take care of your wife in USA? Most of the times the wife's mother stays with her for the last 3 months of the pregnancy.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. At present she is going through 15th week, probable date of travel would be another 7 weeks later. That makes her 22 weeks. We can assume that probable date of visa interview would be 6 weeks later from now. i.e.. She would be around 21 weeks then.

As far as I know, while filling in the visa form there is no section where we need to fill whether my spouse is pregnant or not. And also I don't think she would look pregnant at 21 weeks. So keeping this in mind sohould I be proactive by stating to the visa officer about her pregnancy?

I will check with the HR people about the insurance coverage. They have already sent me a link about all the coverage they provide. Probably this is also going to get covered.

About the last point, I am going alone with my wife, but the best part is my job will be working from home, and I would have colleagues and friends and their families to help me in need. Later if required I might bring my wife's mother for her care.
