Any surgeries or injuries in the last year or two? Mine was way out of range for two years after a surgery I had before it went back down (at least after the first year and before the second years blood test).

Pastor, this is not a question you should be asking here. You or she has to be asked of the attending physician.

Doctors do shrug some test results off, don't they? Mine did too, as I got a copy of blood work on my way out the door. I had been told 'all was fine' and guess what? Two inflammation indicators were high, above range. I asked and got a shrug!

My lab page says "CREATININE: For patients >49 years old, the reference limit is ~ 13% higher for people identified as African American.'
1.6 is more than 13% higher than the high range showing on my page, .99, and probably on yours too.
I don't know why the doctor just laughs, but because it measures kidney function, and our kidneys usually get less and less optimal as we age, I'd guess it might be that. I had done some reading for my own kidney mystery and found widely divergent opinions about concern, and there was quite a bit of correlation to age. Is your friend is quite a bit over 49, by any chance?
It does seem a bit odd that 49 is a magic cutoff for good or bad kidney function. Many of us lose a bit for each year we age.

I also was calculated (age, weight, gender) for GFR, a better kidney function test for people over over 60.

Pastor, there may not be a problem. Kidneys filter waste and keep protein. There may be trace amounts but that is okay. Doctor is amused because she doesn't understand the kidney function. Unfortunately you can't be privy to her conversation with her doctor. You are hearing her side of the discussion. Tell her she doesn't want protein in her urine.

No sense in making a mountain out of a mole hill. Good luck with this.

I was going to ask that too, but I am, and my kidney function is normal, the same as no diabetes.
