Damaged threads on plastic pol filter body
When I was removing the connector pipe from my pool filter housing body, the pipe broke leaving parts of the pipe in the threads. I then tried to hammer out the pieces with a hammer and screwdriver but this made the internal threads worse(damaged). How can I repair the threads, if possible, or what else can I do to remedy this. Thank you.

If plastic can or can't be repaired is completely dependent on the type of plastic. Nope... its not easy to determine what type it is.

Hi Sammy. The best scenario here would be to purchase (or rent) a THREAD TAP of the size needed and chase the plastic threads hoping to recut the threads into the plastic. Otherwise, if a thread tap is not easy to find, a galvanized metal NIPPLE can be used to chase the threads and may fix this up reasonably enough for you to wrap some teflon tape around the threads of pool fitting and make your connection leak free!

    Good luck!

I agree with Mark. Use metal nipple ( galvanized or brass) to re-cut the interior threads. Start by turning the nipple by hand, feeling the threads as you go. Do not push too much. Watch the nipple as you are turning it. Keep it perpendicular to the pump body. Do not let it go sideways to follow damaged threads. When you get to the point where the nipple has to re-thread the damaged threads - apply reasonable pressure, possibly use large wrench to get leverage to get over that damaged area. The nipple will re-cut new thread inside.

    Hope that helps
