    Dripping faucet in bathtub
Hi, so I have a leaking faucet in my bathtub, cold side. I have replaced the stem with new washer and the seat, it still leaks. Any ideas as what to do next?

    Yes, redo it.

With a new washer and seat faucet should not leak.

Remove the stem and inspect the washer. Also make sure that the seat is installed properly. Remove seat and reinstall, insuring it is screwed in fully.
Inspect the washer. If it is damaged, turn it over and use the other side.

Reinstall the stem. This time install it in the open position (only partially screwed in).

    Tip,
Make sure it is the actually the cold and not the hot side that is leaking.

I have done all these things and I'm now completely stumped. I will do it again, but suspect it will still leak.

How do you know it was the cold side water dripping and not the hot? I would sure check the hot side stem, washers, and seats as well.

Inspect the seat to insure that there is no groves or scratches on the mating edge. Logically if the rubber washer presses against the polished surface of the seat there will be no leak.

If you are desperate, switch the hot and cold stems to see if the leak moves.

I determined it was the cold in this way, I ran the hot until it heated up then turned it off. Then I let the drip return, it was cold, if it were the hot side then the water would still be hot, I reasoned. Also we had a drip on the hot side not too long ago and had it repaired. I will check the hot though.

    Will try this.
