I am living in NJ and working NYC. Employer has given me NJ-W4, IT-2104, and IT-2104
Thank you so much for your help! I am so lost!

My situation: I am single, 1 job, and am responsible for my 2 younger brothers.

Second question: What do I put down for allowances on lines 1,2? Do I file as head of household?

Third question: I put down 100% for New York State and 0% for Yonkers?

If you work in NYC, you must pay NY STATE income taxes on the income earned while working in NYC, but you are EXEMPT from NYC income taxes because you live in New Jersey.

Fill out the NJ W-4 to have them withhold NO NJ state income taxes. The tax credit that NJ gives you for the NY state income taxes paid will offset ALL New Jersey state income tax liability. There is no reason to pay NJ state income taxes from your wages which are just going to be returned to you the following year.

Put ZERO % for both NY City and Yonkers.

File as Head of Household for NY state, claiming THREE allowances (one for yourself and one for each brother).

    File the

Thank you so much, AtlantaTaxExpert! I can't express just how helpful your answer and expertise were.

So I would just put down 100% for NY STATE but 0% for City and Yonkers correct?

And your last words were "File the" Were you cut off and had something else to add? Thank you again!

Thank you again for clearing that up! Now would I put down the same info for my W-4 Federal? 3 allowances, single/head of household? Thanks again, AtlantaTaxExpert!
