No More Video Rentals
Is anyone else here unhappy about dvd rental stores disappearing? When I was growing up, there were 2 big video stores in my small town and every gas station and convenience store rented videos too. Now the big stores are closed and nearly every gas station has stopped renting movies too. In the old days, missing a movie at the theatre was no big deal because you just had to wait 3 or 4 months to rent it, but now if you miss it, you either have to buy the dvd or wait 3 years to see it on TV. I sure hope they don't ever stop making dvds. The internet has really screwed up the music and movie industries.

I understand your feelings. But you left a whole industry out when you made your declerations. That would be the gaming industry. Old days - video rental stores. Now it is all on demand digital download. You pay for it but you dont own it no matter how much you paid.
Todays bang for the buck is quickly becoming a fizzle.

Not sure where you live but in Woodstock, GA, almost every store has a Redbox in it.

We used to have Redbox here but they shut down in Canada for some reason. I didn't trust them anyway, machines like that are vulnerable to skimmers since they were often outside of stores in dark areas with no security cameras.

I pay $9 for Netflix (US). Years ago, I rented from them by mail. Now everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. For $35 I have a wireless connection to my TV from my computer (Chromecast by Google). It would be nicer if all movies were available computer-to-TV sooner, but that day is coming fast. Huge changes of several kinds.

Tal I can tell you that there are many people that live in rural areas that dont have access to high speed internet. Those people will fall behind the times. Even the new "blu-ray" disks are now going to be surpassed by 4k video.
I have freinds that are still on dialup because there is no real alternative.
