Breakthrough bleeding for 5 weeks after knee surgery
    Hi,
I am 21 and have been on birth control for probably 6+ years now for heavy bleeding, painful periods and ovarian cysts. My OBGYN lets me "tag" my packs so that I can control when I get my period and can control how many times a year I get it.
I knew I was going to need major knee surgery and would have a full leg brace on for several weeks after surgery, which would make it very hard to deal with my period, so my doctor said I should tag as usual to make it so I wouldn't have my period until more than a month after my surgery when I would be feeling a bit better, so I did that. Unfortunately, the day after my surgery (may 19th) I started to have breakthrough bleeding which has continued daily every since May 19th. Some days it has really been more than just breakthrough bleeding. Needless to say, it has been very difficult having this while recovering, and it is concerning me quite a bit. My "planned" period is for a week and a half from now which means that if it comes as usual and lasts the usual amount of time, and then really ends when it usually does, I will have had bleeding of some form for about 7.5 weeks straight. I haven't been able to get in to see my OB and wasn't even sure if he was the person to ask or my surgeon but I'm not very comfortable asking my surgeon. Any answer on if this is normal or OK or what I should do would be greatly appreciated. I also have a condition (spacing on the name) where, as far as I understand it, my body thinks my period is like an illness, and so it attacks it as if I were sick, so I feel way worse than a normal person when I bleed, so it makes everything that much worse.
I was put on baby aspirin the day of my surgery and wasn't sure if this was the reason, but stopped it 3 days ago and that hasn't helped at all.
    Thanks!

Is it possible to leave a message with your OB/GYN's office to get back to you, or squeeze you in as an unusual emergency? She should at least know you feel awful, and are having issues.
